New Hard Drive
Picked up a Western Digital 300gb Caviar a couple days ago on Newegg that finally came in the mail about 12 hours ago. Took about an hour to back up, an hour to format, and the next FIVE HOURS were spent setting my computer back up to my liking. I need to get a disk ghosting utility or something. In fact, I still have a long way to go. None of my games are installed, and I’m still have to throw on several apps ranging from big software packages (Dreamweaver MX 2004) to little utilities (Quicktime Alternative).
My old configuration consisted of a 40gb OS drive and an 80gb “files” drive, which held my MP3s, software, movies, ROMs, etc. Unfortunately, I literally ran out of space about 2 months ago when I got my broadband connection hooked back up and went on a ridiculous downloading rampage. Out of the 120gbs available on my computer, I was down to under 1gb between the two of them, which forced me to disconnect my DVD-ROM and throw in an additional 20gb hard drive, which immediately got filled. My dad bailed me out and sprung for my new 300gb beauty ($130 after a $30 mail-in rebate), which should give me plenty of breathing room for a while.
Now that I can add to my MP3 and movie collections with reckless abandon again, let’s see how long til I need to upgrade again. Eventually I’d like to set up a gigabit LAN with a dedicated network file server with a bunch of huge drives on RAID 1, but that’s a ways off. In the meantime, this is where I stand:

Funny, I remember when my dad bailed me out and got me my first 1gb hard drive and I thought “No WAY will I ever fill this”. I mean, I could install all my games at once on that puppy. Of course, that was 12 years ago…
