Have I Mentioned I Hate Sony?

Word on the street is Microsoft and Intel have HD DVD’s back, which are big wins, but I don’t know if it’s too little too late. Blu-Ray has a bunch of supporters, including Universal (music), Fox, Disney, Apple, Dell, and HP. I’m not exactly sure why there’s a problem in the first place; HD DVD is quite obviously the next logical step up from DVD, providing a trouble-free upgrade path for both DVD consumers and manufacturers. In the gaming market it’s another story, as Blu-ray holds substantially more data, but seriously…what was the last 25gb game you played?

Since HD DVD makes much more sense in the DVD market, though, hopefully the first couple years will give Blu-ray a slow Darwinian death like Betamax or Laserdisc. There just isn’t room for two competing formats. The proliferation of UMD discs on DVD shelves is pissing me off enough as is.
