Office “Humor”

All, Blog Entries December 12th, 2005

I generally find all office humor unbearable, especially if it has anything to do with Mondays or golf, but I’ve recently discovered the most obnoxious universal office “joke”:

“Are we having fun yet?”

This “joke” can be used at any time; upon entering a room, passing in the hallway, bullshit on the phone, etc etc, and at no time is it ever clever (Hint: The joke is that you’re at WORK! Get it?! ROFROMAFOARMLAFMOARMAFLAOLOL). Of course, that doesn’t keep everybody on the planet from thinking it’s funny. I had heard the “joke” before, but now that I work and interact with office dwellers on a daily basis, I hear it a minimum of twice a day, and that’s if I’m lucky. It’s not unusual to hear it more than once a day from the same person.

The bummer part of it is that in a professional setting, you can’t explain to people that you don’t chuckle at comments that aren’t funny, or even ignore it. That said, I decided today that I’ve forced my last guffaw. From here on out, I will respond “Yes”, and go about my business. Maybe then word will get around that I’m always having fun, and people will quit asking me. I would ask that you join me, so we can help put an end to one of the humanity’s worst officisms.
