Weezer and I Have Made Amends

All, Music May 16th, 2006

It took some time. A lot of time. In fact, it took just over one full year.

Maybe I’m just too forgiving, or maybe it really just needed to grow on me, but I have finally come to really enjoy Weezer’s newest album, Make Believe (released May 10, 2005), with which I was initially SEVERELY disappointed. I’ve decided I was harsh on the new album because I hold Weezer to a higher standard than I do “other” music. I basically grew up with them. I connect their music to countless specific memories over the span of several years… I can’t expect that from new material, but just because the sentimental/emotional impact of their albums (specifically, Blue/Pinkerton…Green to a lesser extent) isn’t there doesn’t mean it’s not great music. There are some fucking gorgeous songs on Make Believe, and years from now I will be connecting new memories to the album.

Now, it’s still no blue album (the blue album gets a minimum of 10 full plays a week, and has ever since I REdiscovered it almost 7 years ago…no exaggeration), but I would like to take this moment to welcome Make Believe into my regular playlist rotation: Welcome.

Oh, I still skip Beverly Hills though. That song still sucks.
