New Super Mario Bros!
DUDE.
It’s been a long time coming, but the new Super Mario Bros., cleverly titled “New Super Mario Bros.” for DS came out today. If you’re not playing it, you’re so out of the loop! Get with the program!
I can’t believe how great it feels to be playing a CLASSIC-style side-scrolling Mario. The game mechanics are about as advanced as Super Mario World (which happened to be the last 2D Mario, at least in the ‘proper’ series), but I am having SO much fun with a game that FEELS 20 years old. Yeah, Mario 64 is one of my favorite games of all time, and yeah, Mario Sunshine was a blast, but it feels so good to kick it NES-style and run from left to right again…you know, jumping, throwing fireballs, rescuing princesses. Doesn’t get much better than this.
Sure, I may be one of those loser twenty-somethings, going through his quarter-life crisis, reminiscing about how good games used to be ‘back in the day’, and yeah, maybe I DO own like 150 NES carts, and yeah, maybe I DO play Super Mario Bros. 1 on a regular basis still and would have loved this game no matter what…or maybe it’s REALLY that good.
Favorite part so far? Oh man, so in this “storyline”, it’s Bowser Jr. that is responsible for Peach’s kidnapping. BUT in the first castle, when you THINK you’re going to fight Bowser Jr., he escapes through a back door and BOWSER drops from the ceiling to rock your world! It’s the best entrance ever! Oh man, I literally creamed my pants. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Ugh, I hate people that say “literally” this and “literally” that, when they don’t REALLY mean “literally”.” WRONG. I LITERALLY CREAMED MY PANTS.
Ugh, I want Nintendo to bear my children.
