The New Poser Rolling Rock

All, Blog Entries October 20th, 2006

The liquor store has been out of Rolling Rock for weeks now as the last of the Latrobe stock was long ago depleted and the distributor patiently waited for Anheuser-Busch’s pretend Rolling Rock to come in. A shipment came in today.

The transition is almost completely transparent to the consumer. In fact, nowhere on the packaging does it even mention Anheuser-Busch. The bottom of the packaging now reads “Proudly brewed by Latrobe Brewing Company, St. Louis, Mo.” Unless you were looking for it, you wouldn’t notice, but last time I checked, Latrobe, Pennsylvania was not in St. Louis, Missouri. I’m also not so sure how “proud” Latrobe Brewing is of their beer anymore, either.

The only other difference in the new packaging is the classic plege of quality on every bottle is now preceded with “To honor the tradition of this great brand, we quote from the original pledge of quality:”.

Though I no longer intend to purchase or consume Rolling Rock, on principle, I do plan on tasting a bottle later this evening to see if the flavor has changed at all.

The great memories I have of Rolling Rock have been forever tainted. Jim Gaffigan I’m sure is a sad man.

It’s like Anheiser is the new GM, Rolling Rock is the new American made vehicle, and you are the new Michael Moore.

    Bowling for Concubine? No…okay…
