Spam is Fun
For the first year this blog was around, I didn’t have to do any filtering because it wasn’t really indexed anywhere and I wasn’t pinging any blog services or anything. It’s still obscure, but that doesn’t deter spambots. No input field or submit button on the web is safe, and anybody that has a website knows how bad the problem really is. For example, in the past 45 minutes since I cleaned out my spam queue, I’ve received an additional 23 spam comments. Anyway, for the past eleven months I’ve been using spam filtering software for my little chunk of web. I trust its competence, so I never check through my spam for legitimate posts; doesn’t that kinda defeat the purpose of sending spam to the trash in the first place? Anyway, a solitary spam made it through my filter today, which is no problem since I still personally approve all comments. Having to manually select “spam” on one comment in nearly a year isn’t so bad. Anyway, the comment that made it through was actually really funny, and I decided to check out my spam queue to see what other brilliant spam comments have been left.
I only made it through about two pages before I gave up, but I took some screenshots of my favorite ones, adding comments on several of them in red. Note that every single one of these is from today only! I bet there have been some real gems I’ve missed.

Gay sock fetish… dude, that’s obviously not spam.
