Buckethead: Acoustic Shards
This is such a great release. Imagine your bedroom is a low-fidelity recording studio and you own an acoustic guitar. And imagine your friend comes over to play it all the time while you roll tape. And imagine your friend is Buckethead. The result could very well be Acoustic Shards, an interesting collection of early Buckethead compositions (recorded in 1991). Many are complete songs, many are rougher “sketches”, and there are large chunks of tracks that are clearly improvised. The greatest guitar player in the world doesn’t need layers and layers of studio magic to impress anybody; this sounds like it was recorded on a tape recorder in somebody’s living room, but it’s difficult to tire of listening to him dick off on guitar in any capacity.
Though more of a “novelty” release, this album is actually considered Buckethead’s 20th proper studio album. EVERYTHING IS CANON.
