First Day o’ Class

So in the past three years I tried going back to school for computer programming and I tried going back to school for art, consequently destroying both my love for computers and art, respectively. Since arriving in Portland, I’ve been kicking around the idea of going back to school; what other passions could I ruin for myself? Well, I’m pretty sure you can’t go to school for skateboarding, video games or beer, so music it is. Specifically, audio engineering.

This particular course was part of a degree Portland State offered in audio engineering, a program they dropped due to lack of enrollment. The core classes are now offered as a two-year on-campus seminar and I decided to sign up. The class I began today is a beginning MIDI class. Although I generally can’t stand the classroom environment and today was an excruciating three hours of computers for troglodytes, the class seems like it should be a lot of fun once we get the ball rolling. We should be actually sequencing music by the end of the month, so I’m sure I’ll have crap of little to minimal interest to assail you with by then.

After I have my residency here (next year), I hope to go back to school school for music composition, but we’ll see.
