Lakai Fully Flared
Oh man, I hadn’t watched a skate video for close to a year when I stumbled across this teaser online last night.
I had to get the movie, and it’s just amazing. Jaw-dropping skating, gorgeous cinematography, all backed by a great soundtrack — one of the best all-around skate videos I’ve ever seen. Highly recommended.

Wow, looks like footage from our last epic skate night before you left. Of course, their epic skateboarding night didn’t end with a money shot. Thanks again!

Funny you use “epic” to describe three hours of the biggest stalemate game of SKATE ever.

Haha… “Okay, let’s try kickflip again… FUCK!”

pretty rad looking video. I’d like to learn how they did those speical effects
January 30th, 2008 at 10:09 am
The put explosions in stuff and blew it up. Special.
Filmed it at high speed. Effect.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
i’m willing to bet that those “explosions” weren’t shot live, but rather done in post smart ass
January 30th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Nope, live.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Yeah, the final shot used actual napalm. Dangerous stuff, skate videos these days.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Here’s the interview explaining it all.

Just because so much stuff is done “post” these days doesn’t mean that EVERYTHING is.
Go back to film school.

effects were created by Spike Jonze
January 30th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Spike Jonze does lots of stuff with Girl skateboards (and affiliates).
January 30th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
i suppose the “invisible” skate board video a few years back was real too?
was created in post production by Spike Jonze as well
January 30th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
yes he does, and he’s a fuckin bad ass
January 30th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
some of the stuff is live action, but a lot of it is done post production. I really want to see the rest of this video. The intro is fucking awesome
January 30th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
There are other effects in the video BESIDES the explosions, dude. Plus “effects” doesn’t mean “fake.” It can also mean “loading up a mock staircase with napalm and fucking asploding it.”
Go back to film school.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
hahaha wow. The “effects” i was referring to (the ones I saw) were definitley not all “live action effects” I’m saying that some of the “effects” were done in post production. Being an editor, who graduated from “film school” and HAS a job, I was stoked on this and immediatley tried to figure out how to do it.
I know what effects are…dick.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Yeah, I think the special effects they talk about from Spike Jonze aren’t in the opening. Aside from maybe accenting that last NAPALM explosion.
The invisible skateboards were real, just a green skateboard and green ramps. The only “post” was a green key. Not a whole lot of “post” to do that. Hell you could shoot that live by running the feed through a simple switch board with a chroma built in.
What did they teach you in that school you went to, that everything done in a movie that isn’t a person is created “post.”
In other news “POST”
January 30th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Editor…..hahahahaha.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Relax man, we’re just fucking with you. We’re all friends here, right? I mean, except Jesse and Stevens. I can’t stand those guys. But aside from them, we’re all friends here, right?
January 30th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Ugh, god no, not with people that HAVE jobs.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Okay, correction: I was just fucking with you. Shawn is a professional heckler. We know you’re a film school graduate… that was the joke.
January 30th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Heckling people and pissing them off across state line since May 2005.
January 30th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
You know…watching it again…I think the music was done post. It just…matches up so well with the footage. Not having a job or ever paying for the privilege of film school knowledge, I just can’t figure out how they did that.
January 30th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Oh wait, I just figured it out…
POST
January 30th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
The film was also shot on black and white cameras. Color was all done in post. Also, none of these guys are skateboarders.
January 30th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Actually all the skateboarders are 43 year old women on dialysis.
January 30th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
No, the women were in their mid 20s and quite healthy. That’s the magic of post.
January 30th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
well was going to comment on Bill’s comment #19.
it does seem that we are all “friends” here doesn’t it? When everytime I say anything, I’m belittled and made to feel stupid. It’s not a fucking pissing contest Shawn, I just made a comment on the fucking video. So fuck off…you know way more than anything I could ever! I just hope someday I will be like you Shawn. The ALL knowing Shawn. Shawn is so smart, and Shawn knows everything. Fuck! Why can’t we all be like Shawn?
January 30th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
I know, why not?
January 30th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
*awkward*
