Put the Metal to the Pedal

All, Video Games March 22nd, 2008

On our third Rock Band bass pedal (for the record, none of them have broken under my watch… *cough*), we’re getting desperate for a more permanent solution. Well, this will have to do.

At first, our third pedal broke in the center, which we fixed with aptly named “mending plates” and a couple short sheet metal screws. This worked beautifully for weeks until it broke at the hinge last night. Turns out a 2½” door hinge does the trick just fine. We were able to punch the pins out of both the pedal and hinge, grind the butt of the pedal down flat on the sidewalk out front, swap them out and secure the whole thing with more of our sheet metal screws. Although the new hinge offsets the original fulcrum point by about an eighth inch, it plays just fine. We’ll see if the minor difference in angle wears any other part of the pedal out faster as time goes on. Until then, game on.

Dude, is it seriously worth it at that point? I mean considering the casual gamer thing beneath this, and all the math talk about fulcrum points and shit…is it worth it to break another pedal?

Teach your goddamn roommates some rhythm and class, instead of fucking dropping a lesson in metal shop. Christ.

The casual gamer thing beneath this says that I’m playing fewer “real” games because of the emphasis on rhythm games now. It’s worth it.

Plus if it breaks again, we got two more mending plates and like 20 more screws. Haha

    Have you been drinking tonight?

Fulcrum has less to do with math. You’re thinking physics.

Totally sober, I just think thats fucking ridiculous. How THAT many goddamned pedals have been broken is out of control. I can only wince thinking about how that thing is being played that you have to Frankenstein it together with shop parts. I just don’t think I would have it in me to care that much after its been broken that many times.

Seriously, its not even “drums” at that point, its not even Les Claypool stomping out some funk, its just bad playing. I understand its plastic, but christ, bring it down a peg or two. That’s all I’m saying. If anything, I’m saying it out of apartment dwellers everywhere that live next to, below, or above, anyone that bought ROCK BAND……

and broke their pedal 3 times.
