I Gave Up on Seal
I posted back on the first that Nick had suggested I learn Kiss from a Rose on guitar, which was a brilliant idea because I love knowing songs that make people say “…why do you know that song?” I had originally planned on multitracking several parts and covering the whole song instrumentally, but I had started off with the intro in a weird key, which made figuring out the rest of the song by ear tedious, since I don’t really know how to properly transpose.
I was then distracted by Mat Weddle’s incredible cover of Hey Ya, which I absolutely had to learn, so I abandoned the Seal project. But here’s a lo-fi recording of the finger-picked intro, which I think sounds pretty neat.
The basic chord progression is really simple, so theoretically if I knew all the lyrics and you got me drunk enough, I could still perform the song.

While Mr. Weddle does a fine cover version of Hey Ya, he totally made that song a bummer. Something about acoustic guitar/whiteguywithbeard/lo-fi, just brings the mood down.
Not that that’s entirely a bad thing, but the only thing I could think of was like, slow motion zooms/pans/slow dissolves on flowers and hungry kids. Totally bummed me out.
Why do you need to learn this too? We don’t need another acoustic guitar/whiteguywithbeard/lo-fi version. Cover his cover with a slide whistle and a clarinet, and we can bring it from hungrykid-ville to Benny Hill town.

Plus…he totally didn’t have anyone scream “ICE COLD!” That is not cooler than being cool.
And he neglected to get all the Beyonce’s & Lucy Liu’s on the floor. I just can’t get behind that.
