More Expelled…

All, Music, Religion/Politics April 17th, 2008

I really don’t mean to dwell on Expelled but I can’t help myself.

I read a review a while back that mentioned that the filmmakers had used John Lennon’s Imagine, playing the song (imagine no countries/ … and no religion too) over stock footage of Nazi Germany or Communist Russia or some such bullshit — you know, because fucking religion is the only thing keeping our fragile society from nose-diving into complete chaos — BARF.

As a quick aside, I have yet to see the film because, oddly enough, the film was not screened for critics. Really, there’s only one reason films don’t get screened for critics and that’s when the creators know they’re complete shit. I have a hunch that that may be the case for Expelled. Unfortunately, this also means that it’s a little more difficult for the wheels of piracy to get rolling underneath this particular release and it has yet to be released online. Believe me, I look every day.

Anyway, I remember thinking when I read the review “…no way would Yoko license Imagine to the fucking Discovery Institute.” And I was right! Premise Media, the group responsible for Expelled, is ALREADY in legal trouble for blatantly stealing an animation of the inner workings of a cell from Harvard/XVIVO and now this.

But this pisses me off on multiple levels. Stealing music? Whatever. Copyright infringement? Whatever. Profiting from copyright infringement? Now we’re getting into gray area. Denying evolution? Dumbfucks. Blaspheming Lennon? Infuckingexcusable. If you’re just going to steal one of the most beautiful songs ever written and throw it in your second-rate docuganda, you better have either the credibility or artistic integrity to back it up, and Ben Stein and his creationist cronies have neither.

I never thought I would be supporting full prosecution for copyright infringement OR Yoko Ono — let alone in one fell swoop — but I hope to fucking hell she buries these people.

Marvin Olasky of World Magazine, featuring “Today’s News, Christian Views”, writes that this is a “seriously funny documentary” that should be rated R for being ” reasonable, radical, risible, and right.”

this guy uses my two favorite movie review hooks: “seriously funny” and rating something R so you can list a bunch of adjectives starting with R. Sorry bill, maybe if your opinions were easier to read i would be on your side, but until then- this guy’s got my vote!

Cameron does way more research for his posts than me. He also cites his sources. Believing in God is like shitting your pants. It’s understandable if you have down’s syndrome, but otherwise it’s just an excuse for not taking responsibility for your life. While I was writing this with Winamp on “random”, Anal Thunder’s “I choose the sin” came on. Coincidence or divine intervention? While Christians might argue that it was a sign from God, I take responsibility for not downloading more music and having six albums on my computer. (The other albums are Bad Religion, Propagandhi, and Darkest Hour, so I really could utilize any album for atheist reference, a clever tactic in my blog post that reveals me having good taste in music and a strategy for this post.) Advantage: Atheists.

In an unrelated side note, Hornsby’s hard cider is the worst thing I’ve ever put in my mouth.
