Softmodded My Wii

After the nightmare that was modding my first Xbox, I was a little hesitant to try it on any other systems, assuming it would be just as annoying. I read up a little on PS2 modding, but as an owner of the slim PS2, I don’t have a whole lot of choice (plus, I really want to be able to run games from the hard drive, like I can on my Xbox now, and the slim PS2 has no hard drive option). My GF owns a PS3, but I wouldn’t dare attempt a modification on such an expensive system.

On a whim I decided to see how the Wii hacking scene has been coming along and they’ve made surprising progress. And the softmod process is about a zillion times easier than the Xbox, thanks to the Wii’s SD card slot. Two quick downloads and about 5 minutes later, my Wii has a slick “Homebrew Channel” available now, from which I can launch media players, emulators, etc etc, and can also perform all manner of wonderfully illegal things like playing Virtual Console titles and “backed up” games.

Check out WiiGator’s site and WiiBrew for more info.
