Call to a Local Game Store

Posted by zhx on August 9th, 2007 filed in All, Video Games

Everybody knows that department store employees are monumentally ignorant of the products they’re selling. Nobody in their right mind would ask the guy in the electronics department at Walmart for advice on buying an LCD TV, for example. But when you call a specialty shop — say, a store that ONLY sells LCD TVs, you [...]

Tribute?!

Posted by zhx on July 11th, 2007 filed in All, Video Games

I was digging through my “My Pictures” folder today, which has been copied and recopied for years; there’s a ton of completely forgotten stuff in it. Most of it’s crap, but I rediscovered this little gem, my own interpretation of the opening of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, with its infamous dialogue. Instead of Richter [...]

Nintendo DS Browser

Posted by zhx on June 19th, 2007 filed in All, Video Games

I picked up Opera’s browser for Nintendo DS on a whim today, mostly for the sheer novelty of browsing the web on a Nintendo handheld. I decided later that since it will constantly be in my DS case with the rest of my games, it might actually come in handy in some situations.
I normally look [...]

Okay, normally I’d think I was above reposting a Youtube video of a laughing baby, but this slayed me.

Sumotori Dreams!

Posted by zhx on May 1st, 2007 filed in All, Video Games

During my neverending quest to entertain myself at work, I stumbled across Sumotori Dreams this afternoon, a 96kb 3D sumo wrestling game. This little gem is the result of one of those demo competitions where insane programmers code complete games under ridiculous constraints. The physics and lighting are incredible, especially for a game under 100kb.
The [...]

I Tire of This

We need to stop this.
Once again my beloved video games are under attack because the killer in the VT massacre, among other things, played video games. This is one of the most simple logical fallacies, and the media falls into it EVERY time. Jack Thompson is just a douchebag, but Dr. Phil of all [...]

Everybody Votes! Channel

Posted by zhx on February 16th, 2007 filed in All, Video Games

Came home yesterday to a flashing blue light on my Wii, which is always an exciting time because I have new messages! It was a message from Nintendo announcing that they had surprise-launched a new channel: the Everbody Votes! Channel. “Make your voice heard!”
I didn’t really expect much, and I was right to not get [...]

Wii News Channel

Posted by zhx on February 2nd, 2007 filed in All, Video Games

The Wii news channel finally launched a couple days ago, and once again, Nintendo has managed to find a way to make something like reading news headlines entertaining. The interface is super slick, and the text zooming effect is really cool. It uses the same 3D globe graphic from the forecast channel, and you can [...]

Need for Speed is Stupid

Posted by zhx on January 24th, 2007 filed in All, Video Games

So it occurred to me, nearly a year after I purchased it, that my computer still has really impressive specs and can actually run PC games. Well, since I have nearly a terabyte of storage, I decided to busy myself filling it with some new computer games. I snagged both Lego Star Wars games (super [...]

Using Your Wiimote on Your PC: A Brief How-to

Posted by zhx on January 11th, 2007 filed in All, Computers/Tech, Video Games

What’s going on:
The Wii modding/hacking/homebrew scene is slowly maturing to the point to actually produce some useful and/or fun projects. One fun (and easy) “hack” is using your Wiimote to control your PC’s mouse, or act as a standard joystick for PC games and emulation. Connecting your Wiimote to your PC opens up a lot [...]
